You know...
Those of you who've been following along for awhile...my Blog-City neighbors, those of you who've stopped by to grab a pattern to use for a Sock-a-whatever pal and stayed, those who've just stumbled here...you know the past year has been well, really awful, to put it mildly. When I decided to start knitting socks, I decided that I'd publish my patterns here for free, because I had gleaned so much good advice and so many patterns from those before me, and because I was a pampered stay-at-home kind of person and I really didn't need the few bucks I could garner from these patterns.
I have to tell you, it's been amazing. I can't believe the nice things people have to say to me, in emails and comments. I've had amazing care packages sent to me and offers of yarn and ideas of all kinds, but I have to say the nicest thing is that someone is still out there reading me, even though I haven't knitted a stitch in ages. I have just now gotten to the point where I can look at other's knitted socks and say, "Wow! I might like to knit that someday!" (Really...this is the truth...I have the Fall 07 issue of IK here...I subscribed a year ago right before all hell broke loose...and I have yet to look at one page in it.)
It's hard to say "thanks!", but I think I should now. Karma plays a big part in my thinking lately...I will be truthful and admit I'm hoping for Karmic Revenge for some folks, but it's still karma. I'm trying to be grateful for any tiny thing that comes my way. We are both employed. We are both in jobs that we like for the most part. Our daughter still loves us even though her American Eagle jeans for school came from the thrift store and not American Eagle directly. I still have tons of yarn and needles and I even knitted a dishcloth the other day. There is hope. We are all surely more grateful for the things we have now, and I am grateful you are still here reading...
And it could always be worse...I could be Larry Craig's wife...
Hahahhaahaaa! Sorry, couldn't resist!
hehehehehe I hope things continue to look up for y'all. I think the last
year sucked for lots of people, I know I've really not loved it so much =)
and a dishcloth is a good start back to knitting project. So are scarves
and hats, for me anyway. After doing those I could finally get the nerve to
start a sock again.
Hahahahahah! Good one! It's good to see things are better for you these
days, and I hope your life keeps going in that direction. And thanks for
all the patterns!
LOL! I would never make it as a political wife. They always seem to get
dragged out there on the podium at the worst moments, to show their
supposed support. Me? NFW, baby.
I knitted your patterns several times and I really love them! It's so great
that you give them away for free. Well maybe in the future you will be
inspired again and can put together a sock knitting book. I sure would buy
it! And I ceratinly will stay a reader here :-)
hehehehe Yer so bad. Hope things coninue to look up for you. I've missed
reading your entries.
Hee. Sometimes I think about what it would be like to be the Jeffersons
and move up to the deeluxe apartment in the sky; most of the time, I just
concentrate on enjoying what I have, because even if I lack some things, I
have more than most. Have a good weekend!
I lost my job 2 years ago. I needed 4 or 5 months to recover
psychologically then started working temp until I found my current
situation a year ago. It's hard to travel 90 minutes a day when before it
was 20 and I lost a really good benefit package too. But -- I have a job,
the day flies by and the boss appreciates me.
I never lost faith that you would be back with us. It's so good to know
that you are both employed now and things are starting to look up. I got in
a bit of a knitting slump during the summer but have rebounded with a
vengeance. I currently have 5 wips with plans for casting on 3 more this
weekend. DH thinks I'm insane. Who knows? Maybe he's right. LOL
You keep on posting whenever you can, and we'll keep on reading!
Still here, still reading, and hoping things continue upward for all of us.
Still reading and still out here. And, your situation smacks a whole lot
like "there but for the grace of God...."
I check out your blog almost every day and always send good thoughts out to
you and Howdy. I'm a big believer in Karma. What you put out there always
comes back to you - good or bad. I'm pleased to see your positive
attitude. Even the worst situations usually have SOME good come out of
them. At least that's always been my outlook. Bless you.
I'm glad things are starting to look up for you. and can't wait till you
start knitting again.
I check you every day...I've been and am exactly where you are and
understand the bleakness that sometimes sets in. I am glad that Howdy is
back in the work world and that together you are holding it together and
things seem to be getting better...I love your sense of humour and it is
important to find the humour everyday...keep posting and believe that we
all care for you too!
I'm glad to hear things are starting to look up for you!
Hope this next year is a better one for you! And thanks for all the socks!
Ha! And you could've lost your sense of humor. I've been really impressed
with your family and your personal reaction to this big, unexpected
negative event in your lives. I'm hoping for some karma to swing around...
and your hard work to continue to pay off.
Glad things are on the upswing! Your perserverance int he face of adversity
is what keeps us coming back! Everyone loves a hero. And in my opinion,
heroes are people who just do what needs to be done. Regardless of the
gratitude or lack thereof!
I just discovered your blog a couple of weeks ago, and love all of your
sock patterns. Sorry to hear that you year has been bad. You sure be to
have an upbeat attitude, which usually seems to make people in crisis win
in the end:)
Life always has its ups and downs and we should try to honour all our
feelings. If you haven't knitted (eventhough it used to be a great love)
don't sweat it. When hell broke loose in my life, I stopped singing,
writing, living for quite a while. What a difference a year can make. Let
the pendulum swing. You'll come back up and be surprised by the view.
Hi SockBug,
'My & Your' Rapid Rivers Socks just came off my needles. Thank you for a
great pattern and for inspiring me to start and finish my first pair of
socks ever. I'm hooked now:).
I'm sorry for your trials, and I thank you for your honesty. I know what
you mean about thift stores and stuff. Hang in there.
