Joy of Socks

posted Thursday, 6 October 2005

This photo is for Jane's contest

This shot took me about an hour and a half to do, but it was huge fun for me!  There are 57 pair of socks here that I've knitted in my lifetime.  Four pairs are missing, two were gifted away, one was an acrylic pair that my daughter outgrew, and one is holding my blue ribbon at the State Fair!  Two pairs belong to my daughter, nineteen to my husband and the rest are MINE!

Today is the first day it is finally chilly enough to contemplate wool socks, it's 66º here this morning.  What a great day to take this picture and enjoy all my handiwork!

That's exactly how it was done, pull yarn through stitches, cinch up. Yuck. Maybe with blocking it will look okay. I think though I'm going to try grafting, my next finger will end with 8 live stitches, so we'll see how it goes. I can always undo the graft and do it her way (the yarn through live stithces and cinch).

Me again, with a question...how did you get the Sock Knitting Ring code for the small entry? Mine takes up half the page, and the customer "service" person was pretty snotty about telling me there was no other way for it to be. Thanks!!

Wow! You've knit a lot of socks! I love knitting socks, too, but don't have quite as many under my belt. I've been knitting socks for about a year and have tried a number of yarns, but I don't know how well certain yarns wear etc. It's all an experiment at this point.

What is your favorite yarn and why? What holds up well over time?

This is an amazing photo. You must knit very fast or take really good care of your socks. I feel like by the time I have made that many socks the older ones would be worn out. Incredible photo. I assumed it was the collective knitting of several people.
