Mo Joe

posted Wednesday, 2 January 2008

Hey!  Welcome to 2008!

Things have started off with a bang here.  Back around my birthday, my Bestest Buddy came to visit me.  She brought me all kinds of goodies and lots of cheer, which was sorely needed.

Possibly the best thing she brought was a saint...

Maybe you're not familiar with Saint Joseph?  According to a quick browse of linked Wikipedia article, he's the patron saint of a lot of things, including "fighting communism" and "happy death".  Fortunately, I didn't need him for those things, but he is also the patron saint of house buyers and sellers.  I do need that.

Did you know you can go to your local Catholic bookstore/gift shop and they have little Joseph kits?  I kid you not!  They are full of Joseph home buying and selling lore as well as a prayer and a little Saint Joseph himself statue!  Now, here's the deal.  You are supposed to bury the Saint Joseph statue out in your yard and he will work his mojo on your home to the delight of future buyers!

So, after a few inaugural drinks, we set out to show Joe the yard.

According to the flyer included, there is no right or wrong place to bury your Saint.  You can bury him head down, or head up.  You can put him close to the house or far away.  You can leave him there after you move, or exhume him and take him with you to your new abode!

Our first choice was near the "For Sale" sign.  No go for Joe, Howdy said the dirt was too hard.

So, we settled on the flower bed up by the house.

Now Howdy was getting all sentimental and promised Joe if he helped us that we'd dig him up and take him with us.  (I added that we'd give him a special spot on the mantel or something, not just throw him in a drawer.)  [Insert image of Daughters cleaning out family home years from now after we're dead and saying..."why did Mom and Dad have a little plastic statue of Socrates?"]

So, here's the amazing part.  Prior to Joe's arrival on the scene, we already had a home showing booked.  Well, the morning after the ceremony, we had a call for a second showing.  Unfortunately, one of the showings cancelled, but the other showing must have been a winner, because they sent over a contractor the following week to check out the possibility of some home improvements.  And...last weekend, they came back and looked again.  Not done yet...today they'd like to know how much our utility bills have been.  Gosh, it's hard not to get excited!

Here's where you come in.  I could really use some mo Joe mojo!  [I know you saw that coming, didn't you?]  Joe would really like to be pulled out, too, I am sure, it's starting to get cold here and frankly, he could use a little sun!

More news as it happens!

Good luck w/selling your home. My parents used St. Joseph & it worked. (Incidentally, they buried him head down) I love your tutorial for casting on for 2 socks - thanks! I've used it several times. Happy New Year!

Brilliant! I've got my fingers, toes, and knitting needles all crossed for you. Go Joe! Which sounds way better than Go Socrates! ;)

I just recited, aloud, "I bestow all of my Joe Mojo for this week on SockBug." If that doesn't get your house moving, I don't know what will.

(and why isn't Joe in a little handknitted JoeCozy? I mean, seriously!)

I should have gotten Joe when we had our house on the market. I know so many people who swear by his good luck! Hope it works fast for you, too.
