Only three days to go!

posted Wednesday, 28 December 2005

I have only three days left to finish Howdy's Christmas socks that have now become Howdy's Anniversary socks.  I only have a couple more rounds and I'll be at the heel flap.

The pattern is kinda neat, like little steps.  I think this is a better photo of it than the last one.  I'd really like to get these done so I can move on to something else, like for me!!  I have all my Christmas yarn piled right in front of me, spurring me on.

It's about 9:30AM here and I am looking out my window to my backyard as I type this.  Here's a short list of the birds that I can readily identify that have been in my vision in the past few minutes...
Cardinal, Blue Jay, Bewick's Wren, Mockingbird, Belted Kingfisher, Robin, Downy Woodpecker, Shovelers, Mallards, Widgeons and Scaups are out on the pond, an egret flew over a few minutes ago and I can see a Blue Heron across the pond.   Incredible.  Winter and spring are the best seasons for birds here.

We had a bit of excitement here in Arlington yesterday, a spate of high wind driven grassfires burned several homes yesterday.   The closest was only a couple of miles  from my house.  It was scary to watch the television coverage of it.  At one point, there were three seperate large fires burning at one time.  Last year (unusually wet), we'd had 46.5" of rain at this point, this year (5th driest on record), we have 18".  All of the lakes are down and the rural areas are just incredibly dry.  No rain in sight, either.

Enough blabbering, back to these socks!

I was thinking about you when I saw the news coverage of the fires. Glad to hear you're all OK!! Keep that garden hose out and ready, though, can't have the yarn burning up... ;-)

Glad you weren't any closer to those fires! The socks look great, as always.

Lovely socks! Will this be a free pattern in the new year, by chance? :) :) :)

Love how the socks (whatever celebration they may be for) are turning out. I'm jealous that you have egrets and herons right now - love those wading birds, which are pretty scarce in a Minnesota winter. :)

I really like this sock pattern. It reminds me of the spiral sock pattern I found on the web, but I can't quite understand that pattern. Mind sharing yours? I still haven't made a paid of socks but I want to start.

I love the Anniversary socks. What yarn are you using? What gauge, & what size needles? I have checked the 365 pattern calendar, is the pattern Steps, March 27, by chance?

Love your blog. Thanks for sharing.

Believe it or not, those socks you're knitting for Howdy seem to be in the same pattern as those I'm knitting for my dad! 8 rows with 2 purl stitches moving to the right in steps?
