I got some questions and comments in yesterday's mailbox...
Cindy asks about the short row wraps in the Lava Flow Socks..."When you say lift the wrap over the stitch before knitting together, how exactly do you do that?" Well, if you look at the stitch, you should see a strand wrapped around the base of the stitch. This is where you wrapped it before. Lift that strand up and over the stitch that's already on the needles and knit them both together. Over in my LinkBlog on the right, there's a link for an exhaustive list of short row heel resources. I encourage everyone else to comment as well.
Jessica mentions the Jaywalker socks pattern. I haven't knitted it yet, but I agree it's a very cool pattern. It's just popping up everywhere. I think it would be a great pattern for some of that Lorna's Laces stripe yarn, actually.
I've been researching alpaca for socks. Apparently, the biggest problems with alpaca are felting and lack of elasticity. Since I intended to gift these socks to Howdy and he has skinny legs and he's very hard on his socks, I suspect alpaca's not the best choice. I think I will make a trip over to the LYS where this was purchased and see about an exchange. I know I won't have any trouble exchanging it and this is the place that had that luscious Lucy Neatby Celestial Merino. Mmmm.
Looks like we're going to be road tripping this weekend. Lots of time for knitting! I'm about 5 inches into the cuff of Howdy's Valentine socks and they're looking good! I have to pay attention to make sure the red lightning bolts stay on one side of the socks, but that's OK. Here's a shot with both of them...
What do you think?
