I worked some on the Six Sox Standing in the Shadows of Love socks yesterday while I was waiting to get the tire fixed on my car.
This is through round 16 of the cuff. So far, I've found this pattern is pretty fiddly and the color changes seem to make the sock unneccarily complicated without packing a lot of impact. More news as it happens. The yarn is Reynolds Baby Wool which I scored off Ebay awhile ago.
Now for the really bad news. It appears inevitable that Chez Sockbug will be relocating during the coming summer. Howdy has a job transfer that we cannot avoid. I will keep it short and just say that we are devastated. I will get one last spring here watching my little pond from my window and then we are off to the land of many mosquitos, Houston. I can't imagine wool socks will be of much use there. I'll try to keep this blog as whine-free as I can, but it is hard to complain to poor Howdy, he wants to go even less than I do.
Enjoy your weekend! My daffodils are sprouting here already! Chance of rain on Sunday, too! How exciting!
From only moderately less humid Atlanta, I have three words of advice -
cotton. ankle. socks. I decided not to do this round's Six Sox - too
fiddly for me, although I like the way it looks.
Sorry to hear about your move. I'm probably moving this summer myself
because I just can't do my current commute forever (2.5 hrs. one way), and
I'm not looking forward to it...so I feel your pain!! I'll probably be
doing a fair bit of complaining on my blog at some point too.
I opted out of the current 6sox pattern, for many of the reasons you
listed, but the biggest was, it's just not my style.
While the weather in Houston does not really warrant the wearing of wool
socks all year long, the air conditioning in offices might! Don't loose
heart. I lived in Houston for about 10 years and loved every minute. It was
not so great for buying yarn, but it was wonderful for a lot of other
reasons.
Ditto on the air conditioning...I live in South Carolina, and I wear my
wool socks in the house pretty much all year. Sorry you have to move; I
just hate pulling up roots. But you'll find something to love in Houston,
too.
I'm sorry for you move, but think of all the positive things that you will
have there. I bet there's an awesome yarn store. Plus I wear wool socks
in themiddle of summer.
Hi, I'm a new reader, and what an apropos entry to come in on. Houston's
not so bad! And I (in a north Houston suburb) am wearing wool socks today.
There are a lot of sock knitters here! You'll be just fine. Do you have
any notion yet what part of Houston you're likely to end up in? If so,
I'll be happy to advise you on your nearest resources. In the meantime,
just look at this list of Houston yarn shops:
http://www.livejournal.com/community/houston_knit/1300.html -- see, lots of
choices!
I'm sorry to hear about your move. I am in the process of moving but my
hubby is thrilled about our relocation where as I would rather get hit by a
truck. I pray some sort of an escape will appear for your family and if
not that the transition will be smooth.
So sorry to hear about the move, especially since you aren't all that happy
about it. :(
I'm sorry to hear you have to move. Moving is hard. I'm sure you'll pull
though it efficiently and gracefully though, and you never know, maybe
Houston will surprise you. ;)
Aaahh, now listen, Houston's not bad!! Trust me, I've been here a few
years, and there are a lot worse place you could go. (Like anywhere outside
the state of TX)
Don't despair. We moved from California - the land pf perfect weather - to
Livingston (70 miles NE of Houston) in 2005. I have survived and still knit
and wear my wool socks! (w. Berkies) There are many SnB meets in Houston
(alas, none here) and many yarn shops. I have to buy online to get anything
decent without running to Humble.
