Hey! It's Super Bowl Sunday here at Chez Sockbug! I actually like to watch football occasionally, and we are having friends over later on. I should be vacuuming, but I had to pop in and show you what I finished this morning!
Taa Daa! Aren't they gorgeous? Howdy will have two pairs of socks for Valentine's Day this year!
Stats: Regia Strato 5740. Lava Flow Socks Pattern (free download over on the right hand side.) 72 stitches on Addi Turbo 1s. Started 1/29/06 Completed 2/5/06. No insects. I love the way these socks turned out, the slipped stitches really made the stripes pop. I used a flap and turn heel instead of the short-row one the pattern is written with. I wanted the heel flap to have the fatter stripes on it.
From the comment bag: Mia asks, "Do you recommend any special method for newbie sock knitters? Magic loop? Two circs? DPNs? Which do you think is the easiest?" The first few pairs of socks I knit were on DPSs, metal Boye ones, because that's all I could find locally. I gravitated to 2 circs after that, it was before the Magic Loop booklet was published. I have since tried the Magic Loop method and I personally think it's probably the easiest to do, it's nearly impossible to grab the wrong needle end with it. I have a huge stash of 24" circs, though, so I still do most of mine on two circs. I heartily suggest you try all of them and decide for yourself! I will say that I think Addi Turbos shorter than 24" are very uncomfortable to work with, since the actual needle part is much shorter, so I would avoid them. I would also avoid the metal Boye needles, they are too long and they really hurt when you poke yourself with them, LOL!
What next? Guess I'd better get digging to find my yarn for the Olympics! Enjoy your Sunday!
